"I've got to be faithful to what God gave me"
When God has a hand on your life, no matter what, you can't get away from it. While this was never something D.Royul had actually tried to make happen, he learned this fact at a young age.
Daniel "D.Royul" Cody was born into a family rooted in Christ, and has been involved heavily in the church since birth. Everything about his life, his natural abilities, and even his personality showed that God had made him unique for a reason. Even before he gained a true understanding of Christ, he was never a trouble maker and always had a natural desire to "do the right thing".
Growing up in the church may come across as a lifestyle with no downside, but D.Royul is the first person to tell you that his life was far from perfect. While he was blessed with a caring family and strong church home, he had his own fair share of battles within. Much to his own dismay, even though he was willfully pursuing the Lord at his church, D.Royul began a battle with an addiction to pornography at the age of 13. For 7 years, he fought to break free as he ran after The Lord, and in March 2007, he was set free.
As the end of his addiction came, God had begun to put on his heart to pursue music - something that had always just been a hobby in his life. D.Royul took the steps to change his college major to music production and transfer schools. It was there at Bloomfield College that he received his degree in Record Production/Engineering, and recorded his first album - Story of A M.O.G.
As a man who has sung all of his life, it was shocking to him that a majority of the songs that seemed to come from him were rap. But he soon learned that whatever came, he had to do it with 100% diligence unto The Lord. The way that music and lyrics seemed to divinely come to him developed a specific desire for what he wanted his music to be. D.Royul made the decision that whatever music that came from his hands, whether as his own or in collaboration, would have to be clearly directed towards The Lord or he wouldn't take part in it.
With a clear set of boundaries in mind, D.Royul began to see his style expand across multiple genres. A lot of his production and music couldn't be classified as strictly rap or strictly gospel. It was all over the place, and at first, this bothered him a lot. How would he be able to promote himself and be successful with such a wide varitey of music? But during the last 2 years of college, he saw how being diverse wasn't really a bad thing. Having travelled the world to over 14 countries, D.Royul has seen what the benefits of not being bound to one genre can bring. Attributing this benefit to music that glorifies God seemed like a no-brainer.
After graduating, he soon founded Man of God Productions with this philosophy in mind. He began collaborating with likeminded artists in the area, while also working on a handful of of his own personal projects. With multiple singles, 3 mixtapes, 2 EPs, and a handful of engineering credits to his name, D.Royul now saw why God had directed him to this way of life.
D.Royul's passion for creating God centered music stems from Revelation 12:11
"And they overcame him by the blood of The Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death."
He is very transparent in his music in the hopes that someone will realize just how real Jesus is, and that they too can be set free from what they're dealing with by Him. While music is not the end all of life for him, D.Royul wants to make sure that however long he is doing music, every bit of the talent God gave him is used to direct listeners' focus back to the one Lord who inspired it all.
